B&G Simrad 50 - July 3rd

The B&G Simrad triple is one of the biggest sailing events of the winter sailing program in Auckland. The series last year attracted over 165 boats.

The first race of the series, the Simrad 50 is on July 3rd.This is the  shortest race over a distance of approximately 50 nautical miles. The course  takes the larger boats, Coppelia included, from the start at Orakei, north up the Rangitoto Channel then we trun right and sail around Waiheke Island. To finish back at Orakei. This is the shortest race Rob and I have sailed in together, and as such will prove a bit of a challenge for us, due to the number of sail changes required and also the large numbers of boat sailing with us.

We plan to up date our twitter feed during the race, so you can see where we are, and what we are doing (eating).

Rob is still busy finishing painting the back half of the boat, he has been slowed by the wintery conditions,  I have been busy sorting all our waypoints out and plotting our courses on Expedition. I also hope to spend sometime practising my desoldering of FETs (field effect transistors), and soldering new ones ...more about that in another installment....

  1. Good luck finishing off the boat Rob. The Roosevelts are looking forward to doing this one with you guys. Keep posting to the blog because it's motivational to know other people are facing the same challenges!
