RNI leg 2

Quick update from Rob

I write this as we approach new plymouth about 20 miles to the south of us. Its a lovely day the wind about 18kts sw so we

are still hard on the wind but "laying" at the moment and hoping to bear away a bit and speed up as we go around Egmont. We

had another god start on tuesday and were firmly in the leading bunch heading around Reinga in perfect conditions. Our new

code 0 headsail helping us again on the approach to north cape. Since Reinga however the breeze has been in the south and we

have had a couple of solid days on the wind with sometimes quite big seas. Unfortunately some of our close competitors have

withdrawn from the race in consequence. Believing ourselves to be in the front of our division we "backed off" a bit to go

easier on the boat and ourselves. Not something we do often and we now understand we may have been overly casual and have let

some boats through. (unfortunately we havent always got the entire radio sched report ). Anyway at least we have no damage

apart from a broken oven door (sad cause I do love my stove) and we are physically in good shape and not too tired so we will

be in hot pursuit of everyone in front of us until the finish in Wellington.
