Sail Auckland and the Flying 15 National Champs

The 2102 Flying Fifteen Nationals Champs, were held in Auckland over the weekend. The regatta was held in conjunction with the Olympic classes Sail Auckland regatta.

I once again sailed with Neil Easton in our 1987 bespoke wooden fifteen IFF.

A fleet of 17 boats from Christchurch, Wellington. Nelson, Napier, Auckland  and  Whangeri  competed .  Neil and I placed 6th in the open fleet, I was the first female helm and we finished 1st of the boats built before 2000. Both Neil and I are pretty pleased, as this follows our 7th in the 2010 champs and 8th last year which we had been assuming all year was a fluke!

Getting back on the handle bars (steering) and running my own boat was a real boost for me, especially mentally as we had a somewhat of a challenging  regatta. But we stayed positive and  recovered from our set backs. Physically the Flying 15 once again put me in my place with lots of hiking, however, this year it was easier on my body due to all the fitness I have been doing…
