Simrad 60 – Saturday August 13.
Progress
Last night I got a very happy call from Rob to say the new NEXUS instrument displays have finally been fitted. This is super exciting, as we have been sailing for some time with no wind gear. More on that soon.
Fleet
Coppelia is currently leading the longhaul division 2 on PHRF. We will of course be looking for a strong result tomorrow, but again we will be using the event to trial new systems, and expand our sailing envelope.
Weather
Metservice says…
A weak ridge lies just east of the South Island, while a low in the Tasman Sea extends a shallow trough across the North Island. On Saturday, a new low passes from the north Tasman Sea close to Brett, while a cold front moves onto the far south from the southwest.
The GFS, CMC and NOGAPS models are all showing building easterly winds, going south east, with a change to south westerly in the late afternoon and evening. The timing of this change and the how quickly it builds could separate the winner and losers tomorrow. We will be using all resources available to us to understand what is happening with the weather.
Start
We are in the first start 09:05 at Northern Leading Rangitoto Channel - you should be able to watch from North Head.

Course
Starting in the Rangitoto Channel we are sailing to Gannet rock at the north eastern end of Waiheke, then, to Flat Rk, south of Kawau, round Motoroa Island, to finish at Orakei
Location
We will once again be using our AIS. It should work pretty well for this race, as we are close in, AND we now have an antenna….
Best of luck guys! I hope you have another pearler of a race. I'm inspired by the way you sail that boat.
ReplyDeleteI hope the instruments all go well. We had the Nexus set-up on Mr. R. and it was really good.
Remember this race last year - it took an eternity! I hope that Southerly rips in for you.
