The other race Round New Zealand

As Rob and I sailed Round the North Island, a dedicated team of people supported us. Lead by my boyfriend Neil, this team seamlessly appeared at every stop over, refreshed and ready to provide assistance with everything from cleaning the boat out, to folding up sails, to dinner arrangements. Then when we started each leg they packed up all our stuff, raced to next port, setup at the next holiday home that we have rented and waited for our arrival.

So as Rob toils on boat work, and I pour over cruising guides, sailing directions and charts, I also  have a very important  duty to prepare the accommodation and travel arrangements for the shore crew. The Round New Zealand race is going to be a big step up for them as well, not only will Neil be driving a car from Cape Reinga to the Bluff, there will multiple  ferry crossings to contend with and some long drives between. Signed up for the trip again next year is Neil’s 85 year old father Bill, who I believe is more excited about the race than any of us.

More on logistics soon, Rob and I are still waiting for the arrival of our electronics, maybe next week.
