Last night just after 8pm our Round the North Island race ended, in light airs at Westhaven with the smell of gunsmoke, for first place on line for our division. We made it, our keel, mast, and all the other bits are still intact, our friendship continues.
I have many people to thank but here is a short list to start with:
• Nick White and Tasman Bay Navigation, without your help Nick we would have never started on this path.
• Neil Easton, electronic engineer, super star shore crew and my loyal and faithful boyfirend, again like Nick without out your unwavering support I simply would not have completed the race.
• Jenny Price, amateur psychologist, Wellington shore crew. Thank you Jenny, for all your long chats. Also your Forming, Storming Norming and Performing saying.
• Steve and Megan Cranch, Monganui shore crew, Auckland arrival party, ongoing support. Steve thanks so much for being available to help out before the start of the race and for brining Rainbird out to the finish.
• Lizzy Fassman, Wellington shore crew, Thank you for your enthusiasm.
• Alison Howitt, Jackie Hillman et al for being my cycling buddies and making us entertainment packages. I loved the fluffy dice in the loo, with the sign "if you are here the boat is going slow!"
• Steve Ashley with his insight into blokes sailing, “Men can only hold a conversation for 10 minutes really….”
• Christine and Russell Weston, for their kind lending of a life raft, drogue and sewing machine for the last little while. Fortunately, we never had to use any of them!!
