The Silver Fleet Silverware

Sally and Neil, 8th NZ Flying 15 Nationals.
First pre-1990 (silver) boat.

Yesterday, I returned from Bay of Islands Sailing Week and the NZ Flying 15 National Championship. A fleet of 22 boats from Christchurch, Wellington Nelson, Napier, Auckland, Whangeri and the Bay of Islands, competed in the series. This event also served as the  World Championship Selection regatta.  Neil and I placed 8th in the open fleet, I was the first female helm and we finished 1st of the boats built before 1990. Both Neil and I are pretty pleased, as this follows our 7th in the 2010 champs, which we had been assuming all year was a fluke!

Getting back on the handle bars (steering) and running my own boat was a real boost for me, espeically mentally as we had a somewhat unlucky regatta with respect to the other fleets on our course. But we stayed positive and  recoevered from our set backs. Physically the Flying 15 once again put me in my place with lots of hiking, however, this year when it became a little tough going I happily thought, I get to go home when it gets dark.
